Massey Records New NI Benchmark - Monday, July 30, 2007
Eva Massey twice beat her existing Northern Ireland shot putt record at the Norwich Union World Trials and UK Championships in Manchester on Sunday.
The North Down athlete finished with a best of 16.63 metres which bettered her existing record of 16.60 which she set at Loughborough in May.
It has been a successful season for Massey as she has topped the British rankings and been part of the UK squad.
Mary Peters had held the Northern Ireland record for more than 30 years.

Zoe Brown competing for Shaftsbury finished 4th in the Pole Vault with a new seasons best height of 3.95m.
North Down's Brendan McConville was 6th in the pole vault on Day 2 (Saturday) with 4.70m, failing at the next height at 4.91m. Luke Reynolds was 6th in his heat at 110m hurdles with 15.01 sec while in the 400m heats on Friday Tom Patton was 5th in 54.37 sec.
James McIlroy failed to make the 800m final going out in the heats on Friday night in 1.50.31. Rhiannon McNally (Abbey) finished 10th in the Hammer with a throw of 49.78m.
Elsewhere, Paul McKee (Beechmount) was competing in Zaragoza, chasing the Osaka qualifying time for the 400m. He finished third in 46.67.
